FENCING

Wooden - Panel - Trellis - Metal - PVC - Concrete - Chain-link

In the UK, a fence refers to a structure typically made of wood, metal, or other materials, designed to enclose or define boundaries around a property, garden, or other outdoor space. Fences serve a variety of purposes, including security, privacy, and aesthetic enhancement.

Common types of fences in the UK include:

Wooden Fences: These are the most traditional type, made from timber panels or slats. They can be simple or more decorative and are often used in residential settings. Popular styles include featheredge (a rustic, overlapping style) and closeboard (a more solid, privacy-focused option).

Panel Fencing: Wooden panels are pre-made and installed between posts. These can be solid for privacy or designed with gaps for a more open look.

Trellis Fences: A more decorative type, trellis fences often have a grid pattern and are commonly used for supporting climbing plants, such as roses or ivy.

Metal Fences: These are often used for security or ornamental purposes and can be made from materials like wrought iron or steel. Metal fences can be sleek and modern or more intricate in design, often found in front yards or around historic properties.

PVC and Vinyl Fencing: Low-maintenance, synthetic fences that replicate the appearance of wood but require less upkeep.

Chain-Link Fencing: Typically used for security purposes, especially around commercial properties or larger gardens. This type is durable and relatively inexpensive but offers less privacy.

Fences in the UK are commonly installed to mark boundaries between properties, provide privacy for gardens, and keep pets or children safely within an area. They also have practical uses, such as protecting against wind or noise.

When we install a fence, it’s important that you check local planning regulations, as there may be restrictions on height, materials, and placement, particularly near roads or boundaries with neighbours.
